While it may be the heart of the offseason for many of us in the U.S. that doesn’t mean we have to put our clubs away until Spring. That’s why we’re compiling a list of products to help with offseason training. The following three products can be used virtually anywhere/anytime, from your backyard to your garage or maybe even your living room. They’ll allow you to get swings in and track your progress, so you can work towards improving your game while the course is closed.
For those of us that have a net to hit into in the winter (outside, in the garage or indoors at the golf course cart barn) it can get boring and is hard to know how you’re performing. That’s why we invested in an affordable launch monitor to track stats and progress. The Garmin Approach R10 is a portable launch monitor that does a great job tracking the metrics of each shot. It easily connects to your smartphone and shows your club head speed, ball speed, swing tempo, ball spin and launch angle among others. What I like is that it also can record your swing for viewing in the Garmin smart app. Lastly, with a subscription to the Garmin Golf app, you can play rounds virtually at many courses around the world and even compete in weekly tournaments with other users. Once the season starts you can use the phone mount at the range and even mount it to your bag for better viewing. At $485 on Amazon (normally $599) its great value and does many of the things a Trackman does.
Now that we’re on the subject of tracking your stats in the offseason, the next recommendation is a dual turn golf mat with lines for easy alignment. It’s a great size and has the option to hit from fairway or rough and stand on an even surface. There are also several different teeing options for golfers of all types. Now is a good time to purchase, as its priced at only $72 compared to the typical price of $112.
Naturally, the next product we’re recommending is a golf net. We’ve been using the Rukket sports golf net for a year now and it’s been a great purchase. It’s sturdy light weight, making it easy to move around the yard and folds up into a bag for easy storage. They also have a lifetime guarantee on parts should something break, which is great considering its purpose. My kids even use it as a soccer net making it a win/win for the backyard.
Add these three products and you’re on your way to a lower handicap and you’ll have less rust to shake off when the season starts!
