A common theme: Atomic Habits and Titleist's Excellence in Process.

As a big fan of James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits, I couldn’t help but notice that Titleist has undertaken a similar theme in their new film ‘Excellence in Process.’ The film provides an interesting perspective about the off-season process of professional golfers and the off-course work they do to be successful on the course. It’s the same theme that James Clear outlines in Atomic Habits, that to be successful it’s important to focus on your systems. “Systems are about the process that leads to results.” The major takeaway from each are that success lies in your day-to-day habits and that goals are good for setting direction but it’s all about what you do every day that determines your success.

The professionals highlighted in Titleist’s film include Ludvig Aberg, Justin Thomas, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young, and J.T. Poston as well as LPGA Tour players Lauren Coughlin, Patty Tavatanakit, Emily Pederson, and Albane Valenzuela. They all talk about the tremendous amount of work they put in each day to be successful. They overcome injuries, swing changes, and other adversity. We see the finished product of their impressive play and performance, but often overlook what they’re doing behind the scenes to produce results week in and week out.

It’s great motivation for all of us as we not only tackle the challenge golf presents, but the challenge each day presents in our personal and professional lives.
