Tiger extends lead heading into Monday Finish

It has been another week of delay ridden golf in San Diego during the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. The tournament will conclude on Monday (as long as weather cooperates) making for the second weekday finish of the 2013 season in just four events. Adding to the delay has been continuous slow play, especially at the start of the third round. The final group waited 12 minutes on the par three third tee and played the third round in over five hours.

That hasn’t stopped Tiger Woods from pulling away from the rest of the field, showcasing his love for Torrey Pines. Tiger has great memories at the course where he won 7 times including the 2008 U.S. Open despite a fractured bone in his leg. He also won the 2008 Farmers where he dominated much like he has so far this week.

Going into the his final 11 holes on Monday, Tiger’s chances look good despite charges from defending champion Brandt Snedeker and fellow Nike staffer Nick Watney who both had great third rounds. His lead is now six over Brandt Snedeker and Nick Watney, both tied at -11. Snedeker got off to a hot start on Thursday with a 7-under par 65 but was set back by a 3-over par 75 in the second round on Friday. He has battled his way back as he is 4-under so far in his final round but has just 5 holes to play. If anybody is to catch Tiger in the final nine tomorrow it would have to be Nick Watney. Watney has only played 8 holes so far in the final round but a 6 shot deficit seems unsurmountable with Woods playing flawless golf.

If anything, Saturday’s heavy fog worked out well for viewers. Live coverage lasted from lunch time to bed time here on the east coast making for a fun filled day of golf. Tiger fan or not, it is definitely nice to see him playing well on the weekend again. It looks as though he has regained his weekend composure after a tough few weekends early in the year in 2012. A win tomorrow morning would make him 1-for-1 on the PGA Tour heading into a string of great events the next few weeks.

Tune into the Golf Channel tomorrow afternoon as play will start back up again at 2:10pm ET.

Tiger has 6 shot lead and all the announcers can focus upon is two bad drives – annoying.

Yeah, I think they were cooped up in the booth a little too long today.
